All of this coffee talk got us curious about the history of coffee in America, so we did some research. Did you know that coffee is the world’s second most valuable trade item (second only to oil)? So, it’s safe to say that the whole world understands the coffee craze. But how did coffee become so popular in the US specifically?

As it turns out, coffee was brought to America by the British in the mid-17th century. Coffee houses became popular hang-out spots, but coffee consumption couldn’t come close to rivaling tea sales until the Boston Tea Party in 1773. Once the British started imposing high taxes on tea, colonists were eager to switch from tea to coffee for their morning beverage. Ever since, coffee has been at the top of the favorite drink list of most Americans.

We love our coffee and that we get a whole day to celebrate it. Stop by one of our Oklahoma locations to get your caffeine fix for free while you can!
